Hobart Airport today welcomed the announcement of the approval of the Hobart Airport 2009 Master Plan by Hon Anthony Albanese MP.
The Master Plan sets Hobart Airport’s strategic direction and intended use for the next twenty years.
Hobart Airport provides vital air services for Tasmania and particularly the Hobart and Surrounds region. The number of passengers projected to pass through the Airport is expected to more than double within the life of this Master Plan.
Hobart Airport Chief Executive Officer Brett Reiss was pleased to have the Master Plan approved “The Master Plan is an important planning and development tool for the Airport.”
“The Master Plan provides a framework for the long-term growth of Hobart Airport.
The Master Plan has a focus on aeronautical growth and development, providing greater access to Tasmania and appropriate infrastructure to support the growth.”
Key aeronautical initiatives within the Master plan include:
- Terminal expansion to cater for passenger growth;
- Apron extension and parallel taxiway redevelopment to cater for increased aircraft movements; and
- Inclusion of a designated freight zone within the Airport precinct.
The development of the 2009 Master Plan involved extensive consultation with a range of stakeholders. Stakeholder consultation will continue to be a priority for Hobart Airport in regard to aeronautical planning matters.
Master Plans are renewed every five years and are required to be approved by the Federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.
