As the main entrance point to Tasmania’s busiest gateway, the iconic road now plays host to Tasmania’s largest and highest resolution LED screen, giving Tasmanian businesses a new platform to showcase their products and services.
Hobart Airport and Dark Mofo announced a new partnership this year, celebrating the opening of Hobart’s internationally acclaimed winter festival with a high-visibility activation: altering the iconic sign that sits atop of the main arrivals terminal. With the support of the Dark Mofo team and some creative thinking the excitement began as soon as visitors touched down in Hobart.
A pleasant surprise greeted travelers arriving in Hobart as they peered out their windows and saw a glowing red ‘WELCOME TO ART’. This year our Air Traffic Control tower, terminal frontage and Holyman Avenue were also glowing red for the occasion. Our infamous baggage carousel seal joined in by promoting a nude swim for those who were game.
Dark Mofo has become an important and much anticipated event that celebrates our Tassie winter. Each year we have seen the festival attract more visitors. It also lures locals out to experience great artists, food and warming beverages.
As part of our collaboration we sponsored Black Box, a pop-up performance space which played host to some of the festival’s most intriguing acts. Highlights included RBMA presents Ephemera Live with Tim Hecker and Marcel Weber (MFO), a drone-driven sound and light experience coupled with the scents of conceptual perfumer Geza Schoen.
Accompanying Ephemera Live in the Black Box program was Welsh dark ambient composer Lustmord, supercodex (live set) from Japanese audio-visual artist Ryoji Ikeda, the ‘hallucinatory’ theatrical performance The Bacchae by St Martins Youth Theatre and Fraught Outfit, and a new dance event addition, Red Bull Music Academy x Boiler Room present Chronicles 003: Mark Pritchard.
Until next year! darkmofo.net.au
